Why Activation Codes Fail

Activation codes are designed to be simple, but a handful of common issues can cause them to fail. Understanding the root cause helps you fix the problem faster. Here are the most frequent reasons an activation code won't work:

  • Expired code: Codes typically expire within 10–15 minutes.
  • Typo in the code: Confusing letters and numbers (like "O" and "0", or "I" and "1").
  • Wrong activation URL: Visiting a different page than the one shown on your TV.
  • Inactive subscription: Your Paramount+ account has lapsed or the free trial has ended.
  • Browser issues: Cached data or cookie conflicts preventing the page from loading correctly.
  • App needs updating: An outdated Paramount+ app can generate invalid codes.

Fix 1: Generate a Fresh Activation Code

This is the most common fix. If your code expired or there was a glitch:

  1. Go back to the Paramount+ app on your streaming device.
  2. Press Back or exit to the sign-in screen.
  3. Select "Sign In" again to generate a brand-new code.
  4. Immediately go to the activation page on your phone or computer and enter the new code.

Have the activation page already open in your browser before generating a new code to save time.

Fix 2: Double-Check What You're Typing

Activation codes often include both letters and numbers. Common mix-ups include:

  • 0 (zero) vs. O (letter O)
  • 1 (one) vs. I (letter I) vs. l (lowercase L)
  • S vs. 5

Look at your TV screen carefully and re-enter the code. If your TV screen is far away, try zooming in with your phone camera to read it clearly.

Fix 3: Clear Browser Cache and Cookies

  1. In Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete (or Cmd + Shift + Delete on Mac), select "Cached images and files" and "Cookies," then click "Clear data."
  2. Reload the activation page and try entering the code again.
  3. Alternatively, open the page in a private/incognito window (Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome).

Fix 4: Verify Your Paramount+ Subscription Is Active

  1. On your phone or computer, go to paramountplus.com and log in.
  2. Navigate to Account > Subscription to confirm your plan is active.
  3. If your subscription has lapsed, renew it before attempting activation again.

Fix 5: Update the Paramount+ App

An outdated app can sometimes cause code generation failures:

  • Roku: Go to the app, press * (star), and select "Check for updates."
  • Fire Stick: Go to Settings > Applications > find Paramount+ > Update.
  • Apple TV: Open the App Store, go to Purchased, and update Paramount+.
  • Smart TV: Check your TV's app store for pending updates.

Fix 6: Restart Your Devices

A classic fix that works more often than you'd expect:

  1. Unplug your streaming device from power for 30 seconds.
  2. Restart your router/modem as well.
  3. Plug everything back in and try the activation process again.
